The washing machine is an indispensable appliance in most households. You collect your dirty laundry, put it in the machine, fill it with washing powder and fabric softener, close the door, and press start. Then, all you have to do is wait until the machine signals that the laundry is clean again and can either be hung up or put in the dryer.

Many people probably don’t realize that all the bacteria in dirty laundry can accumulate in the washing machine.

The machine must also be cleaned occasionally so the bacteria don’t build up in the freshly washed laundry.

But how do you clean the machine? In some places, you can see with the naked eye that it’s time to wipe it with a cloth – but otherwise, it’s hard to see if bacteria are happily living in the machine.

Simple solution
But it’s very easy to get rid of these bacteria—all it takes is a simple item that most people have at home anyway—a tablet for another popular household machine: the dishwasher.
So, before you consider taking the washing machine apart, use this much simpler method.

Place the tablet in the compartment you normally fill with washing powder, and start the machine on a 40-degree program.

When the program is finished, you can rewash your clothes in a clean washing machine because all the bacteria are gone.
Doing this every three months or so is recommended to keep the bacteria at bay.
